The Martyr
A day like today,Exactly twenty four years ago,a little sun was born in the Land of the upright pple.A Thirty three years old revolutionary Captain was made the president of the nation in a coup d’etat.
Formerly known as the Upper Volta,Sankara changed the colonial country’s name to Burkina Faso and not only did he change names but he revolutionized everything from himself, all sectors of the government to even the mere social and cultural trends of Burkina Faso.He took his fight to the heart of corruption,he crippled all the evil axis that operated and sucked blood out of his pple and made historical changes.Changes such as forcing his ministers to swap their Mercedes Benz cars to the cheap Renault 5s models.
Government officials were forced to pay one month of their salaries to fund social projects for the nation and he is the first president to make a day of solidarity whereby men are encouraged to go to the markets and prepare meals to experience for themselves the conditions faced by women.
Sankara’s revolution was a genuine radical revolution with the aim of building his nation and maintain a corruption free state for the common burkinabe but it was not to be!His best friend,Blaise compaore over threw him and had him murdered while his body was thrown in to an un marked pit.
Some days before his assassination,he said ” While revolutionaries as individuals can be murdered,u cannot kill ideas”, and perhaps the old captain was right for his ideas are not dead.Today he is remembered as the one man that waged an all woman uprising and as an advocate for Africa’s women and peoples development. His only possessions that he had left included a car, four bikes, three guitars, a fridge and a broken freezer. This makes him the world’s poorest president.
The Global imperialists will never cease to destroy every minute positive and moral progress that the third world makes.Their leaders are either persecuted, assassinated or embargoed and the ones that are left in the offices of most African,Asian/Arab and Latin states are the money sucking corrupted western puppets.
Alongside Amilcar Cabral, the African revolutionary and liberator of both guinea Bissau and cape Verde, alongside Patrice Lumumba of Congo,Nkrumah of Ghana,Abdirashid of Somalia,El Capitan Sankara would be remembered as a genuine revolutionary,a man with vision and Like El Che of Latin America, his legend and brutal murder will never be forgotten.
Hasta la victoria siempre!
